Narrative Writing Workshop

The workshop was a deep dive into the world of narrative writing. We kicked off by defining narrative writing as storytelling through structured prose. The session meticulously covered the purposes of narrative writing, emphasizing its role in conveying experiences, emotions, and events.

We explored the elements of narrative writing such as theme, characters, setting, plot, point of view, conflict, and resolution. My thoughts revolved around the richness of the content and the practicality of the approaches discussed. The workshop provided hands-on experience, transforming theoretical knowledge into tangible skills.

I felt a surge of excitement as we delved into the elements of narrative writing. Witnessing the collective creativity in the room during the creation of characters and round-robin storytelling activity was exhilarating. Observing how a single story could evolve and take unexpected turns as it passed through different hands was enlightening. It underscored the idea that while the elements of narrative writing provide a framework, it is the individual's creativity that breathes life into a story. The content wasn't just informative but also invigorating, sparking a newfound appreciation for the art of narrative writing.

I learned a plethora of valuable techniques from the workshop that I may apply to my teaching repertoire. Plot mapping and other useful strategies, when combined with the components of narrative writing, can be very effective tools for helping students create engaging stories. I can establish a lively and participatory learning environment by including these components and exercises in my classes. Students find that this practical method not only simplifies the process of story writing but also makes it engaging and approachable.

After thinking back on the narrative writing workshop, I feel energized and have a fresh sense of purpose. When combined with creative methods, the components of narrative writing offer a comprehensive approach to teaching storytelling. Even though learning always involves obstacles, the knowledge obtained points to a route of investigation, creativity, and ongoing development in the craft of instructing narrative writing.

  1. Hey keju, having the opportunity to be invited to the workshop was an experience for me as I gained more information especially about the use of the Freytag Pyramid that students can use to plot their ideas while engaged in narrative writing. The actives also gave me a clear understanding of the characters not only to mention their outside appearance but also their personalities and likes. I am thankful for being able to attend.
